MG Gloster teaser review

The MG Gloster made its debut in India at the 2020 Auto Expo, and the Fortuner-rivaling SUV will be the brand’s fourth launch for the Indian market. In a teaser video, some of the features of the SUV have been revealed. We delve a little deeper to tell you what you can expect from this large SUV.

A Maxus D90?

With the kind of features expected to be offered on the Gloster, this is sure to be a proper luxury SUV with a seven-seat layout and will be MG’s flagship model. It is basically a rebadged model of the Maxus D90 that is sold in international markets. In terms of size, it is bigger than some its rivals, like the Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4.

It’s a beast

Styling wise, the Gloster boasts of a large three-slat grille, flanked the stylish LED headlights. The fog lights are surrounded by C-shaped elements. The bonnet is high-set, and the side profile is rather simple with mildly flared wheel arches. At the rear, it gets a silver skid plate with dual exhausts and a pair of smart tail lights.

Beneath the hood

The MG Gloster is powered a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 220bhp, mated either to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. You can also expect a diesel engine in the form of a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo mill derived from the Fiat Multijet ll engine, producing 215bhp and 480Nm of torque.

Plenty of tech

Inside the Gloster, much of the dashboard has been inspired by current BMW models. The Gloster will come with 7-seat and 8-seat configurations and will come with 2390 litres of luggage space. Thanks to the long wheelbase, the cabin is very spacious with ample room for three rows of occupants.

The Gloster will feature Adaptive cruise control that uses radar, laser or cameras to monitor the road and maintain a distance from the car ahead. However, we’re not sure of this feature will make it to India. It also gets autonomous emergency braking, frontal collision warning system and hands-free auto parking. Other features include leather upholstery adaptive LED headlamps, powered front seats with heating function, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated wing mirrors and a panoramic sunroof. It is also expected to get the MG iSMART connected car technology as well. In terms of safety, it will get traction control and curtain airbags.

Pricing

The MG Gloster will be launched by Diwali this year, and expect it to be priced close to the ₹ 45 lakh mark. Also, grab the latest info on the upcoming cars, only at autoX.
