Statesville, North Carolina: An All-American City

Statesville’s declaration as an All-America City has only sparked its already budding progress. The county seat of Iredell County, North Carolinais a rural area adjacent to several urban business establishments. Statesville is a quaint town that comfortably reaps fruits from the nearby metropolises of Winston-Salem and Charlotte. Though it could easily be a metropolitan on its own, Statesville has chosen to retain its historical sites that further magnify its small-town charm. Modern growth can be seen through its diverse industry, budding health care, various business establishments, excellent schools, and affordable housing. Charlotte may be a tourist favorite, but there’s no denying Statesville has it all.

Things to Do

A string of unique experiences await tourists in Statesville. Whether strolling through the beautiful community, searching for precious gems, playing rounds of golf, visiting a NASCAR shop, attending some of the best festivals in the nation, or visiting five historic districts, there’s always something for everyone. Tourists can stroll through the 3,000-acre woodland and ornamental garden of Allison Woods, or taste some of the finest wines in the region at Daveste’ Vineyards. You can also pick your own sweet corn, decorative gourds, and strawberries at Howard’s Farm, or bring the children to play at the interactive exhibits of Iredell Children’s Museum.

When to Visit

 

Statesville is home to at least two of North Carolina’s most exciting festivals: the Carolina BalloonFest and the CrossRoads Pumpkin Fest. When combined, the duo features hot air balloons, arts and crafts, food, and great entertainment. Held annually in November, the CrossRoads Pumpkin Fest features activities such as corn hole tournaments, pumpkin pie eating contests, pumpkin smashing, painting, and bowling activities, and festival kid zones. More than 60 art and craft exhibitions, entertainment stages, and tantalizing food booths are available throughout the festivities. The Carolina BalloonFest is held every October at the Statesville Regional Airport.

Water Street Marketplace has accessories, antiques, unique gifts, and stock invitations homemakers would love. Resettlers Antique Mall at 1635 Salisbury Highway has more than 20 antique dealers, which are sure to bring guests down memory lane. On Cinema Drive, shoppers will find Thorlo’s Factory Outlet, which is a must for sports enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. For shoes and clothing, visit either Rack Room Shoe Outlet or Tilley Harley Davidson Buell. JR Discount Outlet has the largest cigarette and cigar discounter in the world, and other collectibles. The outlet has thousands of linens, dolls, books, cosmetics, and perfumes can be found at the massive shop. Signal Hill Mall is anchored by names such as Bath & Body Works, JC Penney, and Sears.
